Staples

Yesterday I returned an item valued at $40 but did not have the receipt on me. I was told by the cashier that because I did not have a receipt, they would only be able to give me store credit. I accepted. Today, when I went to use the store credit card, there was only $19 dollars on the card. When I asked why, I was told that they did not give me a full refund of store credit on the card because I did not have the receipt. I was NOT informed of this before accepting the store credit card. When I spoke with the manager, Mike, he was incredibly rude and said there was nothing he could do since we already agreed. The item I bought is still on the sales floor being sold at $40 dollars as well, so it was not due to it being on sales. As someone who works retail, I know this was absolutely against regular practice and policy because I was not informed of the price difference that would be returned to me ahead of time. While I don't care too much for the money lost, I am incredibly furious at the tone and way I was spoken to by Mike. I would NOT recommend going to this store, terrible customer service.

Carole is an absolute gem. I mean it - a pure gem. She works in the printing area and she goes beyond just doing excellent at her job - she is distinctly empathetic and patient. It has been exceptionally stressful recently and I was trying to make personalized Save the Dates to fit within budget. She printed samples, helped give me ideas for better quality, and sat and discussed my future plans. She made me feel worth her time and energy and encouraged me. She said "the point of life is to help others" - and she did. This Staples has a great crew and a great selection of products. I will be back and encourage others to be kind to others and to yourself - just as Carole encourages. Made my day so much brighter!
